The P-51D kit was designed, engineered, and tested over a six month period. Century Jet Models has produced a scale aircraft with the modeler in mind — starting with a light weight, one piece epoxy fiberglass fuselage encompassing panel lines. Our P-51 flying video is awesome!
CG and weight are a concern with any scale aircraft. A layer of 4 & 6 ounce cloth combination was applied throughout the fuselage with an added layer of 6 ounce cloth in the nose section of the aircraft to provide added strength and vibration resistance. To top off this superb kit, all fiberglass parts come pre-primed.
The four piece foam wing comes with a feather edge cut which eliminates the requirement for trailing edge wood. The modeler covers the wing with 3/32” balsa with two pieces of 2 ounce cloth (supplied by CJM) encompassing the foam junctions. The plywood spar is inserted into the foam and interlocks with the landing gear block. Results….a super strong, light-weight, one-piece wing. Our 1/5 scale P-51 landing gear with 5/8” diameter struts are inserted into a specially designed landing gear block to provide scale location and movement.
The P-51 Mustang basic kit comes with a primed epoxy fiberglass fuselage, pre-molded hatch, spun aluminum spinner, foam wings, vertical and horizontal stabs, canopy, instructions and wing plans. Optional realistic gear doors and electronic door sequencer are also available.
